Origin

Carol Danvers first appeared in Marvel Super-Heroes #13, which was published in March of 1968. This comic book also marked the second appearance of Mar-Vell, the original Captain Marvel, who was created by Stan Lee. Carol was created by writer Roy Thomas and artist Gene Colan to be a supporting character and romantic love interest for Mar-Vell. She was introduced as the head of NASA's security at Cape Canavera, where she worked with Mar-Vell while he was using the alias Dr. Walter Lawson. In Captain Marvel Vol.1 #18, Carol received her super powers when she and Mar-Vell were hit by the explosion of a Kree Psyche-Magneton device. Somehow the energy emitted by the explosion caused Carol’s genetic structure to meld with Mar-Vell's. Although Mar-Vell was seemingly unaffected by this event, Carol's genes became a hybrid of Kree and Human. In the process, Carol gained a power set that was similar to Mar-Vell's, although not quite the same. This was actually odd, however, considering that the Nega-Bands that Mar-Vell wore were actually the source of many of his powers. Nevertheless, Carol's super powers eventually emerged in Ms. Marvel Vol. 1 #1, and she became a superheroine bent on dishing out justice and thwarting evil doers everywhere.

About This Website

ThatsMarvelous.com is a fan site dedicated to the Marvel Comics character Carol Danvers. Carol, as you know, is currently going by the moniker Captain Marvel. In the past, she's also gone by Ms. Marvel, Binary, and Warbird (Marvel obviously has an issue deciding which name works best for her). From her first appearance in March of 1968 all the way to the release of Ms. Marvel vol.1 #1 in January of 1977 (close to a full decade), she was simply just Carol and appeared sporadically in the original Captain Marvel's comic book series as a supporting character.

Let's be honest, Carol's not exactly the most popular superhero. (Not even close, really.) However, I find her to be a really cool character, hence why I created this website. Whether you're already a fan of Carol, or you want to learn more about her, I hope this website proves to be both informative and entertaining to you.
